I switch between ATE Super blue and gold and I have never had a problem. I used Castrol years ago but don't remember the type.

Make sure you change it a least once a year if not more often when doing track days.

ATE super blue / gold here. When I can't get that I've had good luck with Valvoline Synpower (not sure if that's available any longer) and even Castol LMA. I ran many SCCA national races in my SSC Neon with the Valvoline and Castol fluids that can be found at most parts stores. Bigger/heavier cars may need more temp range in their fluid than my Neon or Civic.

Necessary to change for every year for sf auto-x only? I probably should change it regardless because I've owned the car for 2 years this april and haven't yet...and the previous owner didn't exactly live under the hood.

Brake fluid is cheap (unless your using SRF) and flushing is relatively easy to do if you have a helper. ATE is less than $15 a liter.

A good fluid change is never a bad thing to start a year off. I have to figure out what fluid I am going to put in the miata this year. I used to run synpower, but we are out of that now so we will see.

Technically the fluid is supposed to be changed every year, even if all you do is street driving. Moisture will find it's way in there over time, obviously not a big deal for street driving as all you'll get is an annoying spongy pedal - the greatly lowered boiling point probably won't be reached.

Anyways this is a rule of thumb I've always heard and a couple car's I've had actually state that the interval should be one year.

Necrobump...

I've been running the AMSOIL 600 DOT-4 this year. Can't complain.

If you guys are like me and don't have friends, or just hate bleeding/flushing, get a Motive power bleeder. It makes doing brake work enjoyable.

I love looking at "normal peoples" brake fluid. It's all black and nasty then I look at mine and other's that take care of their cars and it's nice and gold (or blue haha)

^ Well, at least you've actually changed your brake fluid though I'm guessing.

Our work truck's fluid looks like chunky maple syrup. 1997 Chevy 1500, 100k miles of city driving and half the guys brake like Iowegian idiots (40mph until 5ft before the intersection then slam on it)

I like the ATE blue/yellow but when you go from blue to yellow it takes a lot for it to come straight yellow so my fluid actually goes from a dark green to a light green lol..
