I just got back from a really great Labor Day weekend out in the hills! There's an annual Mustang Rally out there every year that I've been going to the last couple years. My dad (Bert) even came out there.

No particular point to this thread, Dad and I are just kinda proud, so I just want to tell people! :D

We had a great time at the auto cross event they put on. 59 cars competed; I took 3rd, and Dad took 4th!

It was an interesting event, they use their own rules and run it elimination style. There's also no classes. All the cars ran, then they picked a time that people needed to beat to go on (in this case it was 55 seconds). Then all those cars ran, and they took the fastest 16 of those people. Then they cut the field in half after everyone ran. You only got one run per elimination. Dad and I made it to the final 4, but we knew we weren't going to make it to the final 2. One of the guys out there is someone those of you who race out in Rapid might know. His name is Dave, and he drives a teal Fox body. The other guy was someone who Dad was talking to, and he said he does a bunch of road racing, and has done autocrossing in the past (but hasn't for a few years). He drove a GT500.

Dave said he wants to make it out to one of our events sometime. I've also made a couple other friends out there that are from Yankton. They kind of have the auto cross bug, so they're going to try to make it up for some of our events (hopefully this season yet). It'll be nice to have more Mustangs competing here!

Was the guy in the gt500 from pierre named LeRoy? If so i have known him for years. and Dave is always fast in rapid, one of the top drivers in that region.

Great job to both of you, how did alot of the other guys take to lossing to a v6 mustang?

I'm not sure where he was from or what his name was, sorry. It was Grabber Orange with Black stripes if that helps any.

Ya know... I didn't hear any comments. So they were either too embarassed to acknowledge it or didn't realize it was a v6. Maybe they also realized the course didn't require a lot of power :)

I had the oldest v6 in the auto cross, too, so I had the least amount of HP there too! But to be fair... I think I was in the top 3 for the lightest cars there. 8)

I have only heard stories about LeRoy...

Dave is pretty badass driver... That Fox Body is nuts. Me and him usually battle when I go to RC and race. Great guy and very consistant driver when he is on the money.

Again... I like seeing members of our club going out and takin it to different race events.

Especially your Dad... Thats AWESOME... Much respect again.

Yeah, Dave is pretty amazing, he was really cool to watch. It's pretty cool that the only major thing done to the car is the race tires.

He's a really nice guy too, we talked for a while before and during the event. I thought it was funny that he was nervous before the event. I knew of him from the Mustang rally last year, since he won that. I was thinking "how could a guy this good be nervous!" He actually did mention you, Marcus. He mentioned that your goal whenever you go out there is to beat him. I don't think he said if you actually do or not though. :D

For marcus, dustin, and myself, keeping up with dave is usually our target. Its about 50/50 with any of the 3 of us getting the best of him. He is usually pretty calm so him to be nervous is a good thing.

And Leroy has a white gt500 so its not the same guy. I wouldnt mind seeing the orange one autoX.

Thats funny. Its competitive nature... When we go out there it could also be said that his goal is to beat us- hahaha

Dave is an awesome guy. I enjoy hanging out with him out there.

As far as beating him its always close... We go back and forth during the events. Still don't know who won between me and him at the last event I went out for.

That's cool. I really wish I had a bit more money so I could go out there with you guys. Sadly, about all I can afford is one or 2 trips out there a year. Oh well... as I say for all my dreams of more money... "maybe someday" ;)

It was. The elimination style certianly seems to add a lot of excitement for both drivers and spectators. There's more pressure to make sure EVERY run is perfect.

Hey,

I was out camping in the hills with the fam' over the weekend and driving around the hills between Hill City and Custer was like... mustang, mustang, mustang, VW bus, camper, mustang. (then repeat). I swore I saw you in your car out there on Iron Mountain Rd. Luke... I was going to ask you if you were out there.

Sounds like you and your dad had a good time. Nice Job.

Paul

Nice job, Luke! I like that elimination style that they set up. Nice to change things up once and awhile.

I knew that rally was coming up. Congrats Luke and Bert. Sounds like you guys had a hell of a run out there. Like Brad and Marcus have said, running with Dave out in Rapid is always the goal. He gets me more often then I get him. But thats the fun of competing. Actually come to think of it I don't think I have ever beaten Dave. I have come very close on a few occasions though. He is one hell of a driver.
