In the next couple of days I'm planning to order a Goodwin Racing midpipe and Race muffler and a K&N drop-in air filter for my Miata. Will those parts, along with my Eibach Pro-Kit springs, Eibach swaybars, and Nitto NT-01s allow me to stay in NXE?

Also, I'm thinking that if/when the NT-01s wear out this season I'll replace them with Hoosier A6s or Kuhmo V710s. Would moving to either the Hoosiers or Kuhmos bump me (assuming I'll stay in NXE with my current suspension mods plus the cat-back exhaust and K&N filter) to NXD?

In checking the NASA rules over the weekend, it does look I should be able to stay in NXE with my current and planned mods. Here's how I came to such a conclusion:

2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata base points: +7

Nitto NT-01s: +7 (Hoosier A6s: +10)

Tire width (215mm) credit: -4

Eibach Pro-Kit springs: +2

Eibach sway bars: +2

Goodwin Racing midpipe and Race muffler: +2

K&N air filter: +0

Total points: +16 (+19 with Hoosier A6s)

With the above in mind, did I figure everything right?

Your 06 Miata on Hoosiers vs my 97 Mustang on street tires. Both have 19 points in NXE. Unless we are running down at MAM... this using the PT and TT rules is starting to become a problem for me.

edit: This was not a comment on Siouxland but toward the NASA-X classing system.

Get some hoosiers and bump to D!!. You car will be alot faster and you won't have to worry about our silly miatas.

I wouldn't mind getting bumped to NXD but would prefer to stay in NXE for at least this season.

The only thing I wouldn't want to do would be to run in NXE for part of the season and then do something to the car that would bump me into NXD for the remainder of the season. So long as I can stay in the same class for a whole season, I'll be happy.

Louis- Your points are correct. You would stay in E...

Jan- There was a white STS2 Miata from the cities that came down and put up a strong fight against myself, and swingermx5 both driving his car with my Kuhmo V710's on it. He was on Bridgestone RE11's (if memory serves me correct).

A wise man once said- In the end everyone is going for FTD anyways so who really cares what class you fall into.

It does suck to see a completely gutted car on sticky tires in the same class as a "stock" classed "E" car. The rules are ever changing.. maybe next year it will be more "fair".... 8) 8) BTW.. ever get that thing weighed so we can prove weather r not you should be in D not E.

Does it matter. If I am under, I will forfeit my points for the season and race in D for the rest of the year. However pretty sure I am well above my weight.

Also sorry that I took advantage of the rules...
