This is way off topic for here but I am wondering what people have for suggestions for a BIG block Chevy engine builder in the area. When I say BIG, I am saying 700+ CI race motor. No this is not for auto-x or road racing.

This will be a mechanical alcohol injected motor. The motor needs to be freshened with new pistons, updated camshaft, and engine dyno tuned due to the new setup. Ball park is going to be around 1300 HP/1100 ft/lbs.

No one good in the area comes to comes to mind but wondering if anyone has some ideas of somebody with this knowledge.

I've never heard of anybody around here doing anything that big, nor did i know 10+ liter motors were anywhere but semi's.

You go to over 950+ CI with the billet blocks out but we can only only go to a 5.0 bore spacing block so limits are around 785 CI but we are going for around 706 or 742 CI because the extra inches don't give you much more for the extra costs.

Putting these motors together is just like any other motor but getting the correct parts combos is the hardest part. We may just go back down to our engine builder in OK but wanted to look local also since it is mainly a freshen and dyno tune.

Here is the basic motor is based on the NA 16 to 1 compression motor at the bottom of this page.

Have you tried checking with Sehr? Might be a little out of their league. Joey Keyman up at Excessive might be a good one to talk to also. I knoe he has a chassis dyno also. Not sure who else would be able to do that.

Sehr's will never be on the list and I don't think they could build a briggs and stration that would live and I will leave it at that...

The one place we have talked to is CNC Motorsports up in Brookings. They deal in mainly small block stuff but also do some big blocks but nothing really this big. But they did show good knowledge in what could be done and willing to really work. They just installed a new DTS 2500 HP engine dyno so that would work good also.

The other people that we are thinking about is J&L Machine by the Tea Airport. They do all of my machine work and also have done motors for a couple other friends. They do not have a dyno but do some very good machine work.

Here is older photo of what the motor is going into. This back in 1992 and was with the "small" motor of only 572 CI.

So I don't think a chassis dyno will work too well on this setup..lol

BTW this is my Uncle's truck and this is what I grew up around since I was 10 years old. How the hell did I get into sports cars????

ron my dad used to take his motors to a place in tea to get rebuilt, i dont remember the name of it but they did some full performance rebuilds for him in a couple of his camaro's. I will see if i can find out where he took them too, they specialize in building race motors for sprint cars etc.

Finally somebody else that agrees with me about sehr. My buddy had a motor rebuilt by them, and they used the wrong rod bearings in the motor and after 2000 miles the motor popped. Seems to me that happens alot to their motors.

Thanks Shanda. I will check with them. I have heard of them but I really don't know much about them.

We are really thinking about taking the motor down to Louis Boyd Racing Engines down in Norman, OK. He built our old motors and we have had good luck with them. He has built a number of national championship race motors for most forms of drag racing and offshore boat racing. If you can get 3 BB Chevy's to live in offshore boats you can get them to live just about anywhere... just don't expect good fuel mileage...lol

The engine is ready to be picked up. We are working are getting the fuel system setup and flowed out on the fuel injection dyno to get a base line. Once this is done we will be ready the engine dyno and the data logging setup.
