Guys/Gals, I figured I'd ask here to see if anyone has an idea or explanation as to what is going on.

When I slowly go in reverse (maybe 1-5mph) and then touch the brakes to stop, theres a metallic click type sound that is audible. Seems to be coming from the front end of the car. I'd have to assume it's something with the brakes, but not sure what it'd be.

It only makes this sound when moving in reverse, while initially hitting the brake pedal, before coming to a complete stop. It makes it right as I initially touch the brake pedal to come to a stop...

Any ideas? Only brake mods I have are slotted rotors (which I've had for a year and never caused any probs). I checked the pins that hold in the clips for the brake pads, but haven't really checked anything else.

Any ideas/tips or suggestions would be appreciated. This is regarding my Evolution VIII.

Pad depth look OK? could be the squealers on the pads themselves. Another thing to check for- make sure you didnt pick up a rock or anything. Also may just try cleaning them out. If you have higher performance brake pads the more likely you are producing alot of brake dust.

Yeah, I'm going to check the pads tommorrow when I have some time. I'm just wondering if the pads in the front are moving slightly, thus making this noise?

I'll let ya know what I find tommorrow...Thanks!

Hey, i'm new here...but if your still wondering what the sound is...
Depending on your make and model some car makes use a safety feature where the ECU clicks and/or clunks the brakes to check for stability or friction issues...I know for a fact that is is implied in all cars manufactured by Subaru 2000 or newer. The ECU generally applies it while in reverse or at start up (ignition) while in first gear...my car does it most the time when I start up my car, at first it worried me but that is the explanation i received from a Subaru Specialist. I believe a few other car makes apply a feature similar...most car makes apply some form of automated brake checking (which usually presents some sort of sound)...If not this then it may not be your brakes...check any loose nuts (i.e. the lug nuts on your wheels can click around if they are loose...although doubtful that this would be it)...could be a loose brake line, possibly your rotor or caliper might be clicking for some unknown reason (bumping something?)...the brake pad slipping sounds pretty plausible. There could be something stuck under the caliper or pad...i don't know about Evos but with Subaru the brakes makes screeching noises when the pads get thin...but I doubt this is it because your describing a clicking not a screeching.

I see the post is a week old but i don't know if you have figured it out yet so I thought I would through in my 2 cents anyway.

I appreciate your response as well.

The strange thing is that this hasn't always made this sound. Some days it does, some it doesnt. It only started doing this maybe a month or so ago if that.

Pads are fairly new (under 6 months) as well as the rotors. Thickness is OK.

I'm still not 100% positive as to what it really is, as I've had the wheels off the fronts a couple times to check everything over before the next nasacross event. I still believe that the pad is possibly just moving around a bit, but who knows...:D

Thanks
