I'm thinking kind of far in advance, but for next year, I was possibly going to go with the NT-01's. For those who've used them, do they last a full summer of auto-xing (Say 8-10 events)?

I'm just curious because my Dunlop Star specs have lasted pretty well, I may even get some events in on them next summer still and I daily drive my evo about 20 miles a day. I've also attended about 6-7 events this summer on them. They're only a 200 treadwear rating, and I was looking to step up to some grippier tires with a lower treadwear rating.

The NT-01's aren't too much more spendy than than what I bought the Star Specs for. I paid about $600 for the Dunlops, and I can get the NT-01's for about $690 in the same size (255-40-17).

Any other tire recommendations for around the same price level? Again, I'm wanting something that'll last a whole summer of auto-xing if possible (I know every car is different). I also will plan on having a different set of wheels/tires to daily drive if I don't have a beater by then.

Thanks

EDIT: I've been doing some more research, and it seems many people DON'T recommend them for nasacross because you can't build up enough heat in them to get good grip... I'm wanting to hear your guys' experiences with these autox-ing...

Brent, a fresh set of NT01's work really well. Marcus ran them on his Integra last year and took 1st place in SM. Steve, Louis and Brad are all running them this year. They are a good comprmise for our lot. You will get better performance out of a set of Kumho V710's or some Hoosier A3S03's but the will not last as long. The Nitto's are made as a road race tire and are a longer wearing tire. You can get away with a little street driving on them to. Another option to look into is the Toyo RA1 or the Toyo R888. Same treadwear rating and the NT01. Not sure about the price on those other options though.

After racing on street tires last year I am pleased with the grip that I am getting. I drive the red miata #24. Look at my time and that will prove that they are competitive. I would love to run somthing stickier but my budget say 1 set per year. I will get at least one season out of mine plus some. Our lot is really hard on tires so if you want a good compramise between grip and where that is the tire to buy. I will buy them again for next year. I would love to buy somthing stickier but for our lot I think there are the best compramise.

Like Steve, this is the first year I've run Nitto NT-01s on my Miata (blue NC, car #77). I'm really pleased with the amount of grip they provide and they do seem to wear well. With any luck they should easily last the remainder of this season and well into next season.

When the time comes to buy new race rubber, I may buy a different set of tires (e.g., Kuhmo Ecsta V710s, Hoosier A6s) for a new experience and possibly better performance. Otherwise I'd happily purchase the NT-01s again. They're relatively inexpensive for race rubber ($160 per tire in size 215/45-17 from Discount Tire Direct) and hold up well in spite of how hard our course surface can be on tires.

in '06 i ran a fresh set of 710's and i loved them. the '07 season i had alot of tire issues that had me going through about $1000 in tires and not even being able to finish the season. the biggest difference was the track surface that i raced on. The lot in SF is not easy on tires.

So this year i decided to switch to NT-01's on my RWD car. I figured i would not be easy on tires learning how to drive a new car. They have worked perfectly for learning the car and lasting a long season of racing. But for next year i am planning on switching to a more sticky tire. I got use to the 710's and would really like to switch back to them.

So basically if your budget will allow it. Get a second set of rims and 710's or a6's. But for street use with limited mileage then nt-o1's are a good choice.

Yeah, I was looking into trying the NT05's out for just my street tires this spring/summer. Very reasonable price compared to other tires in their category.

I'm actually going to use the Hankook Z214's this year for autox. I've got 2 tires, just waiting for my shipment of the other two. They were really hard to find...

I'll probably use these for the beginning of the year, if I don't sell them first.

Dustin what year you stuck in the those are some old tires try A6's for the hoosiers. THe A3S03's would be so rock hard by now..

I will probably be running a street tire for the local events (NT-05's) it is a PITA to change tires and I autox for $h** and giggles. Unless someone bites my competitive bug then 710's or A6's will be ordered...
