Classification form:

Participating NASA-X regions may elect to also publish a specific set of supplemental rules clarifying some optional items in the national rules. For instance here is the Mid-Atlantic NASA-X regional rules supplement:

Any questions?

From what i have been reading on the Nasa Forums that most clubs use the Time Trial Classes to put the cars into the Nasa X nasacross classes and then adds the points accordinly from the Nasa X Rules a few have used the TT points system. So that is something else to consider i think sticking with the Nasa X rules for points designation be better

that classing system looks like a pita, requires access to dyno if the car has been extremely modded(like my car)

it looks like there would be more classes, vs the 5 to six that the other rules have provisions for.

Well that may vary if we take the class from the TT section and then use the points system will probly off the easiest access for me and well who know at that point it will almost put you in the almost highest class. Like my car sits in A and unless i pull alot outta it then it could be ooo mabey C class

If you take that what class accourding to the Nasa X classing points system put you in?

i was just reading this and am curious on this rule, so are we going to have to stop on the course while we are in the middle of the run and actually point at the cone that we knocked over? and then have even more time by only going half speed? I dont think i like that idea

RULE
Open front windows fully.
2. Come to a full stop after every run in the place designated at the drivers' meeting.
3. If red flagged: Stop your car, wait to be told to proceed, finish your lap at half speed
and, unless you were the problem, get a rerun.
4. Downed/misplaced cone: Stop and point at the cone, finish your lap at half speed and
get a re-run.
5. Cone penalties:
Knocked down = 2 seconds
Out of box (up or down) = 2 seconds
Standing and touching box = no penalty

I don't think it refers to that i belive it refers to like always if your on course and notice a cone that is outta place just like it has always been when we have run not that you have to stop and point out the cone you hit heck there are times i don't think you'd know if you hit a cone or not.

Todd's right. If you knock over a cone, you continue your run just like last year. What this refers to is, if you are on your run and you see a cone that is down or out of place and you did not do it, then you stop point out the cone to the corner workers. Once someone is heading out to fix it you continue on. Finish the run and you will get a re-run.

Anyone else note that the "update" listed in the links are from 2004? The NASA Time Trial rules have been adjusted and modified 3 times since then. (there is also no provision for open wheel cars)

Thanks Jan, NASA is working on it and they are setting up a class for the open wheel cars. NASA-X rules are in the process of being updated. We will have a current classing and rule book in hand before the season starts.

From what I understand, you are not going to be a NASA region, but just using their sanction and insurance? I don't believe that NASA clubs are required to use the NASA-X book (SCCA regions do not HAVE to run SCCA National Classes either) It lets the region figure out what classing structure works best for your local drivers.

Just an opinion from someone who probably won't make it up to too many of your events... I would suggest that you use the current SCCA classes this year until the NASA-X classes actually get updated (they have been working on it for quite a while with nothing getting done) and given time to see if they make sense. Most people are familiar with the SCCA rules and it's one less thing to deal with for now. It also will let your drivers not have to re-figure their class if they decide to go to an SCCA event in LOL or down here in Nebraska. (we'd love to see you guys down here) The backside of that thought is that when our guys come up and run with you, they already know what class they are running and won't have to go thru the whole points calculation thing.

Just IMHO.

I should add that I am a NASA member (Rocky Mountain region) and run in their Time Trials. I currently hold the TTF track records at MAM and MPH.

Jan- you bring up a very valid point. Its not a bad Idea. We will have to discuss it at the next meeting.

If there is no update on the rule book by the next meeting though. I say that we stick with SCCA rules, but if there is an update- we will like Jan said- have to see if it makes sense. Thats my opinion.

The 2008 NASA-X ruleset is now out. It was announced on www.nasaforums.com in this thread:
http://www.nasaforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=21058

It looks like NASA-X, Time Trials, and Performance Touring will all share the basic classing with only subtle differences in the highest and lowest classes.

My new to me 93 Escort LX could be a killer car in NXH!!
