it sounds like a really pedestrian mod, but i can't believe how much it's changed the liveliness of the feel and sound of my car.

the big box air filter was enclosed, and air was fed in from above the radiator, now it's totally open under the hood. you can really hear the turbo now, on the spool up and the blow off. it's a great sound. i'm really happy with the results, and the price! $30! and thanks to louis for being my assistant.

Yes sir. There's a definite sound increase with an open air filter, compared to our stock airboxes.

That's not an apexi filter is it?

nah, i just picked up a generic APC or something from a local parts store. i figure this way if i decide to move up to a takeda with a heat shield for $250, it won't cost me much to throw this one away.

Be careful with those generic air filters. The filter that came with my Buschur intake is a "vibrant" filter, which is pretty cheap by itself.

I took the filter off a few months ago, and low and behold the intake was lined with a fine layer of dust, which is obviously not supposed to happen and not a good thing. The filter was not on the car very long before this started to occur!

After I found that out, I replaced it with an Amsoil filter asap, and haven't had the same issue since. Just a FYI. You have a sweet car; an air filter is the last thing you'd want to skimp out on, even if it's temporary.

Just my opinion/experience! :D

it doesn't look like a cheep filter, but i'll keep an eye on it. it's the kind you can clean and use forever. i'm also pondering how to secure the filter in the compartment. it's just loose resting on the studs where the box used to be. there's no noise associated, but the vibrations that it's taking will probably loosen the clamps over time.

anymore dry flow name brand filters are about all I trust... Green stuff or AEM, etc. I have ran some oiled air filters but on cars with air meters or sensors that can be knocked out by the oil in these- not an option.
