so the Camaro is down for the count. the engine started knocking on Friday afternoon, found the oil pump took a dump and i spun 3 main bearings. so if anyone knows where to find a cheap World Class T5 or other manual transmisson that will bolt up to a 350 sbc, please let me know. i'm officially done with the 3.1, it's given me a little too much heartache :(

I was actually thinking about doing this for the last event....But I think I'm just going to run my tires into the ground before I put on the winter ones.

I forgot to say, good riddance?...a 3.1 making 140hp/190tq? Laaazy...

I guess it is from 1990, but then again our old boat (94?) was a 3.0 4cyl with 130hp but it had to sit at 4,000rpm days on end so it couldn't be real crazy.

don't forget how low the compression was. 8.5:1 is VERY low. here's the thing though, the factory bottom end was rated to take 600bhp safely, the block can take 700bhp safely. those low compression pistons really sucked, but they also allowed for fair amounts of boost (18psi on factory internals)

score!! my parents are letting me use the garage to rebuild the 3.1!!!! it's only going to be $200 for an entire bottom end rebuild (main and connecting rod bearings, front and rear main seals, oil pan gasket). of course the ENTIRE rebuild kit for the 350 is the same price, but then i'd have to spend at least $500 more for a new trans. so the RS WILL be out running again, and it will be a slomaro :P

Well thats cool couldn't you have found a Newer Camaro t56 trans to bolt up to your 350?

so when you have teh 3.1 tore down you gona buy pistons too and bump the compression up some to get some extra pony outta it. Hmm wonder if you could get a stroker crank for that

actually i'm going to leave the stock internals in it. the factory internals can take 600hp, factory block can take 700hp. i'm probably going to go with some boost here soon (maybe run a T3/T4 hybrid on 11psi) and the cheapest T56 i found was $800, money that i don't have. and then i'd need all the parts for converting it to a manual (clutch, flywheel, pedals, trans lines, trans mount, it adds up pretty quick).

Aren't those 4 banger turbos? How would you do that? A t3 on one bank and a t4 on the other? Also why would you have to make it a manual with a t-56? [/questionaire]
