Ok, so i'm kinda at an indecision right now. i found out that i can destroke my 350 into a 5.0 monster. but i'm not really sure what i want to do. i'm asking you guys and gals what you'd do in my situation.

i can either keep the engine a 350, and run it the way it is (little more torque). or i can swap the 350 crank for a 283 crank and throw on some longer connecting rods and turn the engine into a 302 (little more hp and a 8k rpm redline with the cam i have now).

What happened to the turbo?

For autox purposes I'd prolly destroke it 'cause it seems like too much torque just makes it a PITA for autox.

everyone keeps on saying 383, but don't forget i'm still going to be running 255 rear tires for a while, and traction will be quite an issue with the 383

Yeah i understand heck i can have traction issues with my 335 tires. But still if you plan to do autoX and wana do some track days and other stuff the 383 can be built nicely and not radical and be nicely controled but have alot of fun in ever venue that you go to. Just cause you build a 383 dosen't mean it needs to be a 500Hp one. build a 400 - 450hp one Mild cam and lower compression. So awesome torque and great reliability.

how would Vortec heads affect performance on either engine??? i know i've got some extremely low compression heads on the 350 right now (something like 120cc heads or something like that, horrible). and i know Vortecs are 64cc heads.

Well i don't know much about them but from what i understand they flow really well not to mention will up your compression ratio. how much you would have to research on that. cause depending on your piston combo that would affect that.

well, it's going to be neither. i'm selling the 350. getting $400 for it. that's going into rebuilding the bottom end on the 3.1 (it's only $115 for the rebuild kit) so i'll have some cash left over for other things (like suspension parts :D)

I don't think that's a bad idea!

Any plans on the suspension?
